The black kimono jacket has fantastic embroidery. What is depicted is the sleeve part of the armour, Japanese called the ‘大袖‐Oosode’, which is worn by Sengoku Samurai warlords, and is an important part that protects the arms from the shoulder and acts as a shield. Armour was a treasure of the samurai family and, along with the sword, was a spiritual symbol of the samurai.
The wish placed in this kimono is for the child to avoid misfortunes such as illness and accidents and grow up strong. The heavy, supple silk fabric is luxurious and elegant.
